IM Jean Hebert qualifies for the World Chess Cup – Canadian Closed and Zonal Championship, 7-16th August in Guelph

The 2009 Canadian Closed Chess Championship was held on 7-16th August at the the University of Guelph. Top seeded player was the only Grandmaster in the field, Mark Bluvshtein (2558), who recently shared the first place at the very strong Canadian Open. A number of his highest ranked colleagues were missing – Spraggett, Lesiege, Charbonneau and Tyomkin. The second seed was IM Edward Porper (2448), who impressed earlier this summer by also sharing the honours at the Canadian Open.
